Business

The technical subteams might build the brain and skeleton of the rover, but Business is the blood that keeps the entire team pumping. We secure the corporate sponsorships, capital, and resources required to turn our ideas into a highly competitive Rover. By directing our digital brand, managing the treasury, and producing critical media like the SAR video, we build the operational foundation that makes UBC Rover possible.

Social Media

We put UBC Rover on the map.

Our job is to capture and tell UBC Rover's story to the world. We follow the team on testing days and milestones to capture the moment in photos and videos. Then, we post on Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. to show major technical milestones, as well as our people and culture.

Our most important job is to help create the System Acceptance Review, our make or break submission to qualify for competition.

Having a strong social media presence provides many benefits. Most notably, more incentive for companies to sponsor us, and a larger pool to recruit from. With thoughtful, sustained activity on our platforms, we can gain more influence and present ourselves as a professional, passionate, and real team.

One year Tesla came to recruit from UBC design teams. A recruiter told us: “You are one of the coolest robotics teams at UBC, why have we never heard of you?” That interaction sparked us to prioritize our social media presence and take our public image more seriously.
